1970: JB sings with the Now
Generation and appears on two albums, Come
Together and Hits
are our Business
1970: Jimmy moves to
1970: JB works as a journalist for Billboard
magazine in

1970: Signs with Barnaby Records
and releases his first album, Down
to Earth
1971: JB went broke and separated from his first wife Margie. The divorce was final within a year.
1971: Jimmy finishes recording
his second album High
Cumberland Jubilee. The album is not
released because Barnaby Records claims the master tape was lost in a fire.
Nov 1971: JB meets up with
his friend Jerry
Jeff Walker
in
1972?: Jimmy first meets Jane Slagsvol (future wife) at a phone booth outside of the Chart Room bar in Key West
1973: JB signs with ABC/Dunhill
Records

1973: A
White Sport Coat & A Pink Crustacean
is released. It contains the song
Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw which was written by Jimmy using the
alias

1974: Living
& Dying In 3/4 Time is released
and the song Come Monday breaks the
Top 30 pop charts.
1974: JB records the soundtrack
for the movie Rancho
Deluxe and
has a role in the film.
1975: A1A
is released containing many references to
1975: The Coral Reefer Band (Greg "Fingers" Taylor, Roger Bartlett, Harry Dailey and Phillip Fajardo) hits the road with Jimmy for their first tour during the summer.
1976: JB and the CRB record their
first album together, Havana
Daydreamin'
1976: Jimmy buys a boat, The
Euphoria, and sails away to the
1976: High Cumberland Jubilee is finally released after the master tapes are mysteriously "found." This comes on the heels of Jimmy's sudden success.
1976: Jimmy campaigns for Jimmy Carter.
1977: Jimmy's interview with High Times magazine.
1977: Changes
In Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes
becomes Buffett's first platinum album. He also scored his only top ten
single with the song "Margaritaville ."
1977?:
Jimmy buys a house in
1977: Jimmy buys a bigger boat, Euphoria
II, and sails around the
1977: JB and the CRB perform "Livingston Saturday Night" in the film FM.
1978:
The album Son
Of A Son Of A Sailor is released and
The single Cheeseburger in Paradise
breaks into the top 40.
1978: The double live album You
Had To Be There is released and is
highly regarded as one of the best sounding live albums ever recorded. The songs
on this album were recorded at the Gusman Auditorium in Miami and the Fabulous
Fox Theater in Atlanta.
1979: Jimmy is detained by authorities in St. Bart's for allegedly smuggling marijuana
1979: MCA purchases ABC/Dunhill Records.
1979: Volcano
is released under the MCA label. Fins
is released as a single and makes the top 40 chart.
1979: Before the Salt is released containing both Down to Earth and High Cumberland Jubilee, another attempt to take advantage of JB's popularity.
1979: JB sings backing vocals on the song "The Greeks Don't Want no Freaks" on the Eagle's album The Long Run.
1979: Jimmy sells his boat Euphoria II and buys a smaller one called Savannah Jane named for his daughter.
