This Week on the Island

This time of the year it is beautiful here. The humidity is gone and the temperature is in the low 80's in the day and the low 70's at night. I enjoy sitting in the rocking chair on the front porch and reading. The book for this week was another of Laurence Shames books. He has about a dozen about mystery in the Key's. This one is about a guy that gives it all up and moves to Key West. He hooks up with an Indian, his ex-wife, and Bert the Shirt. On the other side is a corrupt senator and the Mafia. They fight over building a casino on Indian land.

'Little Feet' has been recording in 'Shrimp Boat Sounds' on the bight (Buffett's studio). Speaking of that kind of stuff. Tuesday night was the concert in Orlando and it was a live feed to Margaritaville on Duval. Some of our club members got a table up front and enjoyed the show. I couldn't make it.

Key West has a few one way streets. A friend made fun of me because I look both ways before crossing any street. This is a tourist town and you know how tourist are. I pointed out to a lady that she was turning the wrong way on a one way street and she went faster to catch up with her friends that had already turned and were already going the wrong way. When she told them, they all went faster, still going the wrong way. Tourist, can't live with them, can't live without them.

I have already begun riding my bike again since my recent encounter with Vertigo. So I went kayaking in the bight on Wednesday. Sunny, in the 80's and beautiful. Life is good.

Thanksgiving in Key West (82 degrees at 9:00 AM). For the past few years a bunch of us have set up tables and had dinner on one of the docks beside Schooner Wharf on the Key West Bight. What more could anyone ask for: dinner with friends on a beautiful day in a beautiful place. We seem to get more and more visitors each year. Crew members from the different local ships (America, Wolf, Black Duck, Compass Rose, Sebago, PT Boat, etc) all drop by to enjoy food.

Friday morning it was 68 degrees and windy. Local's were cold. The sun warmed things up to the mid 80's by the weekend.
