Peter Mayer Biography

A new feature starting this month is a brief biography of each member of the Coral Reefer Band. This month we profile Peter Mayer, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. Peter's life began in Tamilnadu in the far southern reaches of India where his parents served as missionaries for 17 years before returning to their Missouri roots. His musical influences from this time in his life can be heard in his playing. He went on to study formal theory and composition, and to teach jazz guitar as a professor at Webster University. As a solo act, Peters PM Band has stepped out of the shadows of the Coral Reefer Band to record several albums: Left Lane (1985), PM (1988), Street Of Dreams (1993), Red Wine & Lemonade (1995), Green Eyed Radio (1996) and the newly released Romeo's Garage, a collection of 13 original tunes that showcases influences from blues, jazz, country, folk and rock.

Joining Peter on stage are his brother, Jim, on both electric and upright acoustic bass; Roger Guth on drums; Vince Varvel, one of St. Louis top guitarists; 5cott Bryan, a talented vocalist and percussionist who recently joined the band after a 5 year stint with Sheryl Crow. Also on Romeo's Garage are Coral Reefers Mac MacAnnally, Ralph MacDonald and Michael Utley.
