Captain's Log
This is going to be a strange and long letter, so kick up your feet, print this baby out and enjoy. With my duties
as Entertainment Coordinator for ParrotStock, I must first apologize for not getting the newsletter out in a timely
fashion. I've been swamped and up to my ears in phone calls, e-mails and airline reservations. So with that in
mind, I'm going to try to compose a mini-newsletter with this e-mail that will encompass last night's meeting and
other ParrotHeaded information that you might find relevant to our club.
Our monthly meeting last night was held at the Summit Restaurant in Chester and semi-well-attended. Kevin Loop
conducted an "open-mic" night with Bill Sims being the only one brave enough to join him on stage for
a few romps
through Buffett's early days.
Rick Rutland officially became President of the club last night though he skipped out on us to help a couple of
friends sail a boat from the Bahamas up to Charleston (poor fella ;-) Lewis Cauthen has us set up to work Knight's
Castle again this season, with only one Saturday night per month lined up for us. I'll forward the schedule as
soon as he forwards it to me.
We're also going back to Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord for another stint working a concession booth during the
Coca-Cola World 600 NASCAR race on Sunday May 27. More details will follow, but we do need 3 or 4 more members
to volunteer to go up to Concord for alcohol sales training. If you'd like to volunteer for this training, which
obviously needs to be completed before the race, let me know. Dwight Mercer will be letting me know the date for
this and I'll pass that along when I get the info.
This Saturday, we'll be setting up a tailgate party for the annual Come See Me Festival's Tailgate Party at the
Winthrop University Coliseum. Our location won't be known until Saturday morning, but we're going to try to be
in the same general location as last year (on the right side of the road that enters the Coliseum grounds to the
right of the Coliseum....hope that's not confusing. Let me know and I'll give you more detailed directions). We
will be frying turkeys and it would be nice if everyone could bring something. Get back to me with what you'll
be bringing and if we have too much of anything, I'll probably ask you to bring something else. A prompt response
on this would be appreciated. We'll have Ol' Big there (if you have to ask what Ol' Big is, you'll just hafta wait
and find out when you get there) and we'll also be setting up the tent that the club bought for the Atlanta concert
last year. If anyone needs to contact me or gets lost in the myriad of tailgaters, give me a call at 448-8000.
Oh yeah, bring your deck/lawn chairs and whatever you'd like to drink. The club will purchase soft drinks for the
occasion.
The financial situation of the club is getting better. The Christmas season pretty much wiped us out with our donations
of presents to the kids of the Children's Attention Home (approximately $1000.00) and a donation of $1000.00 to
the Tropics Exotic Bird Refuge. We currently have $1850.00 +/- in our account.
I received a letter of thanks from Cheryl Howell yesterday and want to share her kind words with everyone: "I
would like to thank each and everyone of you for all of your efforts toward the benefit for Ronnie. I am sure he
smiled down upon everyone while singing "A Pirate Looks At 40." The club has helped create a lot of happy
memories that will help carry me through the years to come. Thank you all for your continued support and kindness....Cheryl
Howell"
On another note....the following letter was posted on Hugo Duarte's Hillbilly Beach web site. Hugo's father, Hugo,
Sr., is going through some rough times right now and prayers are being asked for. Here's the message:
"Hello Everyone, Our Dad is preparing to do battle with esophageal cancer. Our family knows of and believes in the power of prayer and in the accomplishment of miracles. We ask that you join our prayers for Dad's full recovery, and that you help us in praying for him to be spared of the severe side effects of the radiation and chemotherapy. We also ask that each of you help us further by sending this prayer request to everyone on your email list. We love our Dad very much. Our family thanks you from the dephths of our hearts and ask that God bless each and every one of you always. Louise &
Hughie"

This breaking bit news was just released by Jackson "BubbaFreak" Quigley: "The Coral Reefers have
been called in early to California. They have been told to report in on May 15th. There's a reason for this folks....Jimmy
is revamping the show. As we all know, Jimmy has a pretty full plate, and this summer's plans were for the tour
to simply be a continuation of the "Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday Tour" that has been playing for the last
year or so. Well, Jimmy has had a change of heart, and not only will the show have a revamped set list, the set
is getting redesigned as well. All this is great news, and shows that Jimmy isn't content to just sit back running
on "Cruise Control." He has always wanted to give the best product to his fans, and that's what he seems
to be doing here. The tour will be called the "2001 A Beach Odyssey Tour" and all I can say is thanks
Jimmy." Jackson now has plenty of books for sale and will probably be at ParrotStock as well. To
view his site, go to http://jimmydotcom.com/home
At a recent Miami Heat/New York Knicks NBA basketball game, NBC announcer Bill Walton was wearing a parrot and
a sign that said "Free Jimmy". At the end of the game he mentioned that they made it through the game
without Buffettt getting ejected.
"Don't Stop The Carnival" (the musical, not the CD) began its run at the Atlantis Theater on Paradise
Island in the Bahamas on April 6th. Check out the web site at http://www.margaritaville.com/carnival
